I DIDN'T SET OUT TO BECOME AN AUTHOR...
As a young girl, I was an enthusiastic journal keeper. I wrote something about my life every day. When I started seriously dating my husband, I began a journal for our lives together. When my five children were born, I began a new journal for each of them. I credit these journals for my impeccable memory of dates and events in our lives. Other than this style of writing, and a few creative writing projects for classes, I'd never attempted to write any kind of comprehensive story until the summer of 2007, when I read a book I didn't like and wondered if I could write a better story.
NOVEL 1
I started brainstorming ideas and wrote the first three chapters of Time in Paradise during a long car ride home. I finished the first complete draft three months later. It took me another six months, however, to turn my boring first draft into the conflict driven story I finished with. The result? A more complicated and interesting story. Laney and Jonathan have become characters that I still think about. The softening of Jonathan's heart and Laney's determination to fight for what she thinks is possible are inspiring qualities I think we can all relate to.
NOVEL 2
The idea for Finding Kate came one afternoon before I was finished with Paradise. I saw a scene in my mind's eye of a woman being followed while walking in the park. I started asking questions, such as, "Who's following her? Where is she going?" I wrote down a few ideas and let it sit in a drawer until I could get back to it. The plot of this story became more complicated when I created Russell's character, devious and possessive. I don't have any personal experience with this kind of person, so I had to use my creative imagination. One thing led to another, and I ended up with a suspenseful, and unpredictable novel with enough twists and turns to keep you reading all the way to the end -- the goal of all authors! Now, I'm addicted to the creative writing process.
NOVEL 3 - Two parts
Yes, I'm working on a third book. It's an inspirational, coming-of-age story about a 17 year old hot-headed teenager, whose only goal in life is to get out on his own and race cars....until he meets Amanda, a well-grounded, unselfish young woman who spins his goals into something he hadn't planned on. Hope to get this finished book published in 2017.
NOVEL 4
One early morning before I was completely awake, I saw a prince sitting on his horse on a high cliff, looking out over a vast meadow. He was dressed in black with a dark purple crest on his chest and his name is Redrick. He has dark, shoulder-length hair and intense dark eyes. He wore a look of worry on his face, along with despair, or desperation. A couple of days later I saw in my mind a young woman kneeling in a garden. She is happy and content. She wore colorless peasant work clothes and had her dark hair pinned up on her head with a scarf wrapped around it to hold it up. I knew instinctively that she was the reason for the concerned look on Redrick's face. But why? Who is she to him?
