BOOK CLUB DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 

THEME
  • What did you think the book was about, judging by its cover?
  • What theme(s) did you find in the book and how did they contribute to the story?
  • What theme(s) do you think the author was trying to emphasize?

CHARACTERS
  • Did you find any character that you personally related to?
  • Did you find the actions of the characters realistic and believable? To what extent did they relate to you?
  • How did the characters change throughout the course of the story? How would the situations they faced have affected you?
  • What character did you like the most, and why?

SETTING
  • How did the setting in the story enhance or take away from the story?
  • Did the setting come to life enough that you felt like you were there with the characters? How so?
  • What senses were evoked to give you a sense of the setting?

PLOT
  • At what point while reading did you realize you liked the book?
  • Did the plot move at a pace that kept you interested or did you feel at times it moved too slowly? 
  • Were you surprised with any twists and turns of the story? Did you feel satisfied with the ending?
  • What passage or scene in the book stood out to you and why?

WRITING STYLE
  • How did you feel about the amount of description and dialogue in each scene? Did you find yourself skipping parts to get on with the action, or did you find the two balanced.
  • Were you able to visualize the settings, characters, and emotions of each scene? Do any scenes stand out in your memory?  
  • Describe what things you liked about the writing style and what things you would like to have seen more of.

OVERALL
  • Name your overall favorite part of the story. Your least favorite.
  • If you could change some part of the story, what would it be and why?
  • What type of readers would you recommend this book to and why? 
  • Did the story make you think about any particular part of your own life from a different perspective?
